Seafarers’ Rights
Maritime Labour Law and Seafarers’ Rights
We provide legal advice and assistance to seafarers and maritime professionals in matters relating to their employment rights under the Maritime Labour Convention, 2006 (MLC 2006) and the applicable national legislation governing maritime employment.
Our practice focuses on protecting the rights of seafarers in disputes with shipowners, ship managers and employers concerning employment conditions, remuneration and social protection.
Members of our team have completed postgraduate studies in Maritime Law at the World Maritime University, and have also participated in specialized training programmes organised by the International Labour Organization and the International Maritime Organization relating to the implementation and enforcement of the Maritime Labour Convention.
Legal Assistance for Seafarers
We advise and represent seafarers in relation to the application of the Maritime Labour Convention 2006 and the relevant national legislation governing maritime employment.
Our services include legal assistance in matters concerning:
- poor working and living conditions on board vessels
- outstanding or unpaid wages
- working hours and overtime
- sick leave and sick pay
- industrial accidents and occupational injuries
- repatriation of seafarers
- social insurance rights
- insurance claims relating to maritime employment
Enforcement of Seafarers’ Rights
Where violations of seafarers’ rights occur, we assist in pursuing appropriate legal remedies through negotiations, administrative procedures or legal proceedings before the competent authorities and courts.
Our approach focuses on ensuring that seafarers receive the protections and guarantees provided under international maritime labour standards, including the rights established under the Maritime Labour Convention and applicable national regulations.
Seafarers’ rights lawyers in Bulgaria
Our lawyers advise and represent seafarers and crew members in claims arising in Bulgaria: unpaid wages, injury compensation, repatriation and other rights under the Maritime Labour Convention (MLC 2006). When a vessel is arrested or abandoned in a Bulgarian port, crew wage claims call for particular attention, and we assist crews in pursuing and securing them. You can read how arrest proceedings work on our ship arrest page. Every consultation with a lawyer from our team is confidential and can be held in English or Bulgarian.
